International Coffee Convention
Finally, I’ve completed my presentation on the “Liberica Refinement Project" for Long Banga and Long Balang in Sarawak!
I’m also grateful for the opportunity to present our main strategy at ICC, which emphasizes Quality Improvement, Sustainability, Empowerment, Transparency, and Market Access.
Liberica coffee only contributes to less than 2% of global production, but it makes up 87% of Malaysia’s coffee cultivation. It’s essential for international coffee experts to recognize Malaysia and Sarawak’s distinct role in global coffee production.
During the same section, there were also very insightful presentations on Liberica coffee by Dr. Carmen Ablan, Raven, and Catherine Kiefer.
To assist us in collecting taste samples for our subsequent research, the organizers specially arranged a cupping session so that we had this chance to let the experts in attendance to taste 10 different Liberica varieties from Sarawak and Johor’s My Liberica, each processed differently.
Seems like the response was overwhelmingly positive.
Many thanks to the Coffee Consulate, the International Coffee Convention, our fellow Liberica growers from Long Banga, Long Balong, and Uma Bawang, as well as FAMA. Special thanks to Wendy Luta and Diana Jitam from the Department of Agriculture Sarawak for their support.
